Monsoon Postcards - Indian Ocean Journeys

In the sequel to Postcards from Stanland: Journeys in Central Asia, historian and journalist David Mould traverses the Indian Ocean—from Madagascar through India and Bangladesh to Indonesia. It’s an unpredictable journey on battered buses, bush taxis, auto-rickshaws and crowded ferries. Along the way, in markets, shops, roadside cafes and classrooms, he meets journalists, professors, students, aid workers, cab drivers, and slum-dwellers to learn how they view their past and future. Monsoon Postcards offers offbeat, witty and insightful glimpses into four countries linked by history, trade, migration, religion and a colonial legacy.

David Mould, professor emeritus of media arts and studies at Ohio University, has traveled widely in Asia and southern Africa. Born in the UK, he worked as a newspaper and TV journalist before moving to the US in 1978. Kirkus Reviews describes him as “A genial travel guide … an academic who does not write like an academic.”
