The recent closing of Wheeling's historic "City Hospital," long known as the Ohio Valley General Hospital (OVGH) and finally the Ohio Valley Medical Center (OVMC), was a painful and emotionally draining event for many people. To help preserve the institution's legacy, former staff helped secure the OVMC Auxiliary's scrapbooks, photographs, annual reports, and minute books for donation to the Archives at the Ohio County Public Library. The collection documents the Auxiliary's mission to educate the community and support the efforts of the hospital it served for over 100 years. The hospital's board of trustees records (1914-2018) were also donated, as were yearbooks, photographs, and museum artifacts from the hospital's School of Nursing. At this program, former hospital staff, nursing school alumni, Auxiliary members, and patients are invited to share their memories of the historic hospital and all of its subsidiary organizations. The program will include displays from the archival collections. Mary McKinley, who was involved with the hospital for 43 years holding positions such as staff nurse, instructor, and clinical chair at the OVGH School of Nursing, Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Director of Education, will act as host.
"Lunch With Books" is the library’s flagship program for adult patrons. These lunchtime programs feature authors, poets, musicians, historians, and more every Tuesday at noon. Complimentary beverages are provided. Bring your lunch, feed your brain!
