Cephalopods, including octopuses, squid, cuttlefish, and nautiluses.

Instructor Theodora Mautz is a PhD student in Marine Biology at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego. She currently studies the evolutionary and behavioral dynamics of female choice in cephalopods, with a focus on local California market squid (Doryteuthis opalescens). She spends her time SCUBA diving looking for market squid (often at night, when they're reproductively active) and in the lab trying to parse out their genetic paternity rates.
