Digital Resources Expanded on OhioCountyLibrary.org

The Ohio County Public Library has made an exciting expansion of the digital resources available on the library’s website. The recent expansion will allow library card holders to access expanded popular titles on Hoopla Flex, the New York Times online, films on Kanopy, children’s books from iVox, music from Freegal, and more all for free. These additions have been made to the great digital resources that were already available through the library.

“As many are struggling financially, we are happy to expand free educational and entertainment opportunities to library card holders,” said Amy Kastigar, Ohio County Public Library Director. “These additional online resources will provide members of our community with new ways of learning and discovering through e-books, audiobooks, movies, music and more." 

In addition to the ten Hoopla Instant borrows patrons already received each month with their Ohio County Public Library card, they now will have ten Hoopla Flex borrows to use on thousands of specially marked Hoopla Flex eBooks and Audiobooks. With Hoopla Flex, patrons will find thousands of new and popular books that they can borrow now or place on hold to read later.

The New York Times is an essential source on nearly every topic — from the vital issues shaping our world to the simple pleasures that make everyday life better. Ohio County Public Library card holders can now access the New York Times online, in addition to New York Times Cooking and NYTimes Games.

Kanopy is a video streaming service that provides instant access to thousands of critically acclaimed movies, documentaries and kid favorites. Kanopy partners with studios like A24, The Criterion Collection, PBS and more to bring Ohio County Public Library patrons access to thoughtful entertainment. Card holders can stream Kanopy on their favorite devices! Kanopy is accessible via mobile and tablet apps for iPhone and Android, as well as Roku, Apple TV, and Fire Stick. 

iVox Books is a children’s book app which uses the latest in storytelling technology to delight and engage curious young minds. Children ages 3-8 can follow along with a story while interacting with its characters and scenes immersing them in the narrative like never before.

The Ohio County Public Library has seen a thirty-three percent increase in new card holders in recent months from 2021.The library hopes that the new features are enjoyed by new card holders, as well as encourage additional residents to renew or signup for library cards.

Q: I don't have a Library Card. How can get one?

A: You can easily get a library card online!

Q: I can't find my Library Card. What's my Library Card Number? 

A: If you've already registered for a library card with us, we have your number on file. In order to confirm your library card number, we'll need you to verify your contact information first. Once verified, we can email you your library card number.

Q: A service is asking for my 10-digit library card number. My card has more than 10-digits.

A: If you had one of the yellow WV Northern Library Network (WVNLN) cards before you signed up to use the services at the Ohio County Public Library, we may have added your WVNLN library card number into our system, allowing you to use your WVNLN card at our Library. OCPL is an independent Library and uses a 10-digit card number. If you normally use your WVNLN card to check out materials at the Library, please contact us about getting a 10-digit library card number.

PIN Questions:

Q: What's my PIN?

A: Your PIN is the first four letters of your last name, all in lowercase letters. If your last name is shorter than four letters, your PIN will be your last name, all in lowercase letters. 

Q: I tried entering the first four letters of my last name and it is not working. Why isn't it working? 

A: The PIN is case-sensitive. If you've entered your PIN in all lowercase letters and it is still not working, your PIN may need to be reset.

Username/Password Questions: 

Q: Is a username and password the same as my library card number and PIN?

A: No, your username and password are independent from your library card number and PIN. Your username is typically the email address you provide to an online service, though some services will ask you to create a unique username along with a password. 

Q: Why do I need a username and password? How do I get a username and password?

A: Some of our online resources require you to create an account before you can access their materials. Typically there will be a "Get Started" or "Register" button you can click and then the service will allow you to register by providing your email address and creating a password for that account. After you register, you will then be able to log in with the email and password you provided. Once you log in for the first time, you may then be asked to then find our library in their system (search for "Ohio County Public Library" or by zip code - 26003) and provide your library card number and PIN. 

Q: It's been a while since I last logged into a service and I can't remember my username. What's my username? 

A: Your username is generally the email address you used to sign up for a given online service. If you can't remember which email address you signed up with, there should be an option under "Forgot your password" to retrieve your username. 

Q: I can't remember my password. What do I do? 

A: Each service should provide a "Forgot your password?" link. Generally, when you click on this link, you will be asked to provide your email address. The service will send you an email with a link to a page where you may reset your password. Once you complete the password reset, you should be able to log into the service with your email address and the new password.
