Game and Play with the Ohio County Public Library

Analog Summer is the new, hot trend. Getting off your phone, connecting with your community, and slowing down. Here at the Ohio County Public Library, our Library of Things has got you covered. 

If you’ve been to one of our Game Nights, you know we have a whole collection of games. We’ve got classic games, like Scrabble, Monopoly, and Dominoes. If you want to explore some more unique games, we’ve got many, for both single and muliti-player games. Nayt Knapp, who started our board game collection, talked about our collections and game night. “ We began developing our board game collection in October of 2023, originally to provide more options for patrons coming to our then inaugural Game Nights, but soon after to develop a circulating collection for all of our patrons. Since then, much of our collection development has come from generous donations from our patrons! Consequently our genres and styles of games have broadened out significantly. We continue to actively develop our collection by identifying niches that are currently unfilled, such as single and two player games. Likewise, as per this summer, we’ve been acquiring games that pair with our summer reading programs. That means a plethora of dinosaur and excavation themed games for this summer’s theme of “Unearth a Story!”” If you haven’t been to one of our Game Nights, you should change that; we have video games, board games, and snacks!

ornhole, Janga, and Bocce Ball are just a few of the outdoor games we have. If you're into the Pickleball craze, we’ve got two sets with everything you need: paddles, balls, a carrying case, plus a “Pickleball for Beginners” book. If you miss playing with those great rainbow parachutes from elementary school, you can relive the joy by checking out the Parachute Play Kit, which includes 24 colorful balls to encourage creative play.

If your dream summer looks more like exploring and discovering, we’ve got a few things to help with that. Let our kids' metal detector help you find buried treasure. Perhaps you're a bit more into spooky things. Check and see if your house, or favorite spot, is haunted with our ghost kit, which includes a copper dousing rod set, 2 rechargeable flashlights, Ghost Hunting for Dummies book, EMF Reader, and a Spirit Box. We’ve also got bird kits for both children and adults, for a woodsy adventure or backyard fun.
