We are so excited to announce a brand new collection within the library catalog called the Library of Things, which we will be officially launching on October 2nd, 2023!
An innovative, unconventional collection, the Library of Things will allow OCPL cardholders to access a selection of useful, practical, and recreational items, ranging from kitchenware, to sporting equipment, to technology. The goal in introducing this collection is to further the Library’s mission to “provide free and equal access to resources that assist our community in the pursuit of knowledge, information, education, research, and recreation which promotes an enlightened citizenry, encourages lifelong learning, and enriches the quality of life."
In this initial launch, the Library of Things will feature over 65 items which were curated based on answers and comments received through a survey on the library’s official website. The collection will grow over time, with a plan already in place for a Seed Library to be added within the coming months. Currently, the Library of Things contains: cookware and baking materials, oversized outdoor games, pickleball sets, twenty-five board games, knitting and other crafting kits, children’s board book and toy kits, tools, a telescope, wifi hotspots, a portable DVD player, and Roku devices preloaded with multiple streaming services.
The Library of Things will be free and accessible to anyone with a valid OCPL library card. Patrons will be able to check out these items for a two-week time period.
If anyone has requests for additional items that they would like to see added to the collection or is interested in donating to the Library of Things, we have set up an email for patrons to contact with questions, concerns, requests, or anything else: [email protected]
