The Ohio County Public Library is constantly looking for ways to serve our community. In the spirit of this, we are excited to launch a new collection within our Library of Things, Memory Kits. Almost six million Americans are currently living with dementia related diseases. Memory kits promote reminiscing, stimulate memories, and foster meaningful conversation. The kits include a DVD, photo and activity cards, and come in a wide variety of topics.
Currently, OCPL is launching five kits: The Great Outdoors, The 1950’s, Patriotic USA, Remembering Pets, and Cats. The cat kit even comes with a soft plush cat! These kits are available now to borrow. In addition, the library is teaming up with Welty Home to pilot programs with the Memory Kits. Julia Bachmann, the Head of Outreach Services, will be offering on-site programs using the memory kits, which will include the items in the set, as well as a theme-related snack, and other related items to pass around. These on-site programs will eventually be available at other facilities that wish to participate.
We also have a large selection of books to assist caregivers of those experiencing dementia related diseases.
