Summer Reading Ends August 15 - Log Your Minutes Before it's too Late!

Our Summer Reading Challenge for 2020"Reading Takes You Places" — is almost over, but guess what? Even if you haven't participated yet, there's still time left to join the challenge! And guess what else? It's super easy. Have you read anything this summer? Well then, you're eligible. There's still time to log each minute you've read between June 15th and August 15th. One minute read counts toward one point in our system. Reach 1000 points and you'll receive a digital certificate saying you completed our 2020 Summer Reading Challenge. That's just 17 minutes of reading for every day of our challenge! Have you done that? You're already there, so log those points!

ReadSquared

And just how do you log those minutes read? This year, the Library is using a new software called READSquared that allows patrons to track their Summer Reading participation. Through READSquared, we have participation levels for all ages. It's super easy to sign up online at ohiocountylibrary.readsquared.com or download the READsquared app at the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Collect points for reading and completing activities. Log your minutes read to earn cool prizes! For full details on signing up, download a 2020 OCPL Summer Reading booklet.

The Library's Summer Reading Finale for adults took place, Thursday, Aug. 6 at 6:30 pm. Dr. David Javersak hosted our Summer Reading World Geography Bee featuring questions inspired, in part, by the Around the in Literature and Language World People’s University series. Congratulations to our 2020 Champions: 1st place - Dave Rinn; 2nd Place - Becky Szabo; and 3rd Place - Michael Borsuk. And thanks to all that participated - we had such a fun night.

People's University "Around the World in Literature and Language" may have just wrapped up, but we already have a new series planned for you. Just in time to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment which prohibits the states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States on the basis of sex (ratified August 18, 1920), we will launch the 30th installment in our People's University Series: "The Struggle for Women's Rights."

People's University - The Struggle for Women's Rights - August 20-September 27 online on Thursday nights starting at 6:30 pmA look back at history shows that women have made great strides in the fight for equality, including women’s suffrage and inroads in equal opportunity in the workplace and education. Despite the tremendous progress made in the struggle for equality, women still face barriers to equal participation in society. In this six-class series, we will take a broad look back at the history of women's rights. We'll learn about powerful women of the past and the roles some of our founding mothers played in our own country's development, explore the suffrage movement on a local and national scale, and finally take a look at current legislation and issues women still deal with today.

People's University: "The Struggle for Women's Rights" will be broadcast live online, Thursday nights from 6:30 pm to 8 pm on YouTube Live and Facebook Live starting August 20th and running through September 27th.  Click here to view the full schedule and class details or visit our online calendar of events.

Make sure to subscribe to our People's University YouTube Channel or like the People's U Facebook Page to receive notifications of upcoming classes.
