Virtual Fall Programs for OCPL Kids Start Today!

This fall, the Ohio County Public Library Children’s Department has planned Toddler Times, Story Times, and Special Activities Programs to be shared online.  These videos will be broadcast live on the OCPL Kids! Youtube channel and the Ohio County Public Library Facebook page. Our first virtual Fall Story Time starts today at 10 am!

Early childhood literacy is important. Children who are read to regularly exhibit higher activation in areas of the brain that support mental imagery and comprehension of narratives ⁠— key skills needed for independent reading comprehension. Library programs have significant positive impacts on early development and help equip children with lifelong learning and literacy skills that help prepare them for school and beyond.

Fall 2020 Schedule 

Story Time

Story Time programs introduce young children to books, rhymes, songs, crafts, and other fun activities. Library Story Time incorporates the early literacy skills that children must master before they can learn to read.

Story Times are designed for children 3-5 years old, though all ages are welcome. 

Toddler Time

Based on the "Mother Goose on the Loose" program, Toddler Time is a fun interactive program that uses rhymes, songs, puppets, musical instruments, and more to stimulate the learning process of babies and toddlers (birth to age three).

The age-appropriate listening, moving, and singing that takes place in MGOL exercises fine and gross motor skills, fosters speech development, keeps children’s interest for an extended period of time, gives children opportunities to make scientific observations regarding cause and effect, and provides a joyful introduction to the world of books and reading.

Have you heard about our themed book bags?

We know it can be time-consuming and cumbersome to browse our online catalog for kid's books. So we've made things easy for you. The Library is now offering themed book bags for young kids (pre-K to grade 1) and mid-elementary aged kids (grades 2-3) and older elementary (grades 4-5) to reserve for curbside pick-up. To reserve a pre-selected themed bag of books for your kids or to request a custom-themed bag, just call the Library at 304-232-0244  and let us know what kind of books you'd like to reserve for your kids. When the book bags are ready to be picked up, we'll call you and arrange a time for you to pick up the bag and any other items you'd like to check out from the Library.
