Library Card Artist Series
Thank you for your interest in our Library Card Artist Series!
Presented in part by Wheeling Heritage and the Wheeling Arts and Culture Commission
THE SUBMISSION WINDOW FOR THIS PROJECT HAS NOW CLOSED.
The Ohio County Public Library is looking to commission multiple local artists to create art pieces that will be printed onto new OCPL library cards as well as additional in-house marketing materials such as bookmarks, stickers, welcome brochures, and print marketing. The proposal form that is linked below includes questions such as your preferred art medium, a proposed color palette, and a description of your proposed piece so that we may get an idea of what you plan to create. Submissions must be based around one of Wheeling Heritage’s Themes of History and Development, and we recommend keeping in mind that this project is mainly to adorn our library cards...and that we love books and bookshelves!
Submissions should not contain finished art pieces! As an effort to be respectful to artists’ time and hard work, submitting prior portfolio pieces and a description of the piece you have in mind should give us enough of an idea of your art style and plan. However, if desired, artists may submit a rough sketch of their proposed piece. Once selections are made, we will work closely alongside the artists to create the final art pieces with minimal revision sessions.
Final pieces should be able to be broken up into multiple, smaller designs for use across several mediums in a cohesive way (see examples).
If chosen, artists will be compensated $1000.00 and the library will license the art for a duration of 5 years with the option to renew. Artists will retain all intellectual rights to their piece and will be encouraged to sell items such as totes, tee-shirts, and prints on their own as a personal, additional avenue of income. Further terms and conditions, as well as a planned schedule for release, will be provided to the chosen artists.
SUBMISSIONS CLOSE AT 11:59 ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 22ND, 2023
