STORY TIME AT THE LIBRARY: Picnic for National Watermelon Day

STORY TIME IS BACK AT THE LIBRARY! YAY!!!

August's theme is PICNICS! Our theme for the first week of August is watermelons!!!

Story Time programs introduce young children to books, rhymes, songs, crafts, and other fun activities. Library Story Time incorporates the early literacy skills that children must master before they can learn to read. Story Times are designed for children 3-5 years old, though all ages are welcome. The program lasts approximately 45 minutes and caregivers are asked to participate with their children. Story Time is held in the Children's Department. This fall, Story Time will also be broadcast online, live, on Tuesdays at 10 am (see below for details).

Book CoverToday's Story Time: Let's celebrate National Watermelon Day!! We will read Picnic and make a paper plate watermelon.

Today's Book: Picnic by John Burningham
Book Synopsis: One day, Boy and Girl head down the hill with a picnic basket and meet a fancily dressed Sheep, Pig, and Duck. They all set off to find the perfect place to sit outside—until they see Bull coming! A short-lived chase segues into a gentle interactive text as the friends wend their way from an idyllic outdoor world to a welcoming house on a hill. (Can you find Pig's ball? Shall we find your bed?) In a charmingly understated tale with child-friendly illustrations and a hint of sly humor, John Burningham evokes a perfect summer day with a fresh new picture book.
