Library Closed for New Year's Holiday

Posted 12/30/21

Library Closed for New Year's Holiday

The Library will be closed Friday, December 31, for New Year's Eve and Saturday, January 1, for New Year's Day.

Normal Library hours will resume in the new year, Monday, January 3, 2022.

New Books added in 2021As we head into the new year, we've added a new feature to our website — a page dedicated to the new books we featured on social media throughout the year. Take a look back at some of the books that were added to our shelves in 2021. If you see a book you missed in 2021 that you'd like to read in 2022, you can place an item on hold for yourself over the holiday while we're closed through the Library's online catalog at https://tlc.ohiocountylibrary.org. All it takes is your OCPL library card number and your 4-digit pin. When we open back up on Monday, we'll look at our reserve lists, and we'll call or email you when your book is in and ready to be picked up. Or, you can wait until Monday, January 3, and call us at 304-233-0244 to reserve an item over the phone.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

JANUARY PROGRAMMING:

Children's Programming starts up again the first week of 2022.

Toddler Time (Ages birth-3):
On Monday, Jan. 3 and Friday, Jan. 7 at 10:30 am, at Toddler Time, we're going to the moon! We will read Space Boy by Leo Landry. This world, decides Nicholas, is too noisy for him. Time to take a trip. He packs a snack, puts on his suit, and takes off . . . to the utterly quiet craters and vast deserts of the distant moon.

Story Time (Ages 3-5):
For older kids, on Tuesday, Jan. 4 and Wednesday, Jan. 5, we'll continue our trip to space, reading If You Decide To Go to the Moon, and making a paper tube rocket ship.

Lunch With Books:

Lunch With Books First Program of 2022At our first Lunch With Books of 2022, Tuesday, January 4 at noon, for part two of “Historic West Virginia Anthems” (watch part one with Eli Lambie here), we will be joined by WVU English professor, Dr. Sarah Morris, and "The Troubadour," Bob Gaudio for an exploration of that most famous of West Virginia anthems, John Denver's iconic and internationally ubiquitous, "Take Me Home, Country Roads" (1971) which turned 50 years of age in 2021. Morris’ forthcoming book, Transformation, Translation, and Complication: Take Me Home Country Roads, explores the significance of the iconic song at West Virginia University, in West Virginia, and beyond. She contends that “Country Roads” emerged within a set of social and historical conditions that contributed to its success when it was written, so much that it is now ingrained it into our collective culture, locally and globally, in a lasting way. It is a song, an anthem, a prayer, and a hymn, but it represents us only in a limited way. Joining Morris and Guadio at Lunch With Books will be an authentic stage costume worn by John Denver.
