The Ohio County Public Library is pleased to announce that its digital collections now include the Wheeling Intelligencer newspapers from 1852 through 1970, 1980, and 1981. Additionally, both the Wheeling News-Register and the Intelligencer are available from 2014 to the present with additional selected newspapers from 2010-2013.

The digitized newspapers are indexed, making them searchable by names, keywords, and dates. Users can browse, search, view, download pdfs, clip and share articles, headlines, pages, and stories using the ohiocountywv.advantage-preservation.com interface.

The Library has been working with Advantage Preservation over the past two years to digitize our microfilmed newspapers. The remaining Intelligencer microfilm reels, covering years 1971-2014, will be digitized next year, and the Library will begin digitizing the Wheeling News-Register, which span from 1863 to the present.

Prefer the old-school feel of microfilm to digital records?

Though many of our newspapers are now available online, the Library still houses an extensive physical microfilm collection on-site. In addition to the Wheeling Intelligencer (1856-present) and the Wheeling News-Register (1863-present), other newspapers available on microfilm at the Ohio County Public Library include:

Four microfilm readers are available for public use in the Library's main floor near the Periodical section. Microfilm reels are housed behind the Circulation Desk. Black and white copies can be made from the readers for 10 cents per page.
