Schedule of 2020 Family Programs for January Through May

The Children's Department of the Ohio County Public Library is the place to read, play, learn and grow! 

Early childhood literacy is important. Children who are read to regularly exhibit higher activation in areas of the brain that support mental imagery and comprehension of narratives ⁠— key skills needed for independent reading comprehension. Library programs have significant positive impacts on early development and help equip children with lifelong learning and literacy skills that help prepare them for school and beyond.

In addition to our regular Story Time and Toddler Time programs, we are pleased to offer families the opportunity to participate in programs together at the Library. These programs broaden opportunities for families to learn together, strengthening connections between parents and children. Join us for special storytimes, movies, musical performances, hands-on activities, crafts, and more at one of our special Family Programs.

January:

FIRST MONDAY FAMILY PROGRAM:
Monday, January 6th, 6 pm 

• Family Movie Night - Dora and the Lost City of Gold: Enjoy a movie with popcorn and drinks and your family.

FIRST MONDAY FAMILY PROGRAM:
Monday, February 3rd, 6 pm

• Black History Month Scavenger Hunt: We will learn how to use the library resources, both in the library and on the internet to help us on our scavenger hunt. This program will get everyone up and moving around. Prizes will be awarded throughout the program.

March:

FIRST MONDAY FAMILY PROGRAM:
Monday, March 2nd, 6pm

• Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss: It’s a party! We will have a few special guests read their favorite Dr. Seuss story, play games, and have birthday cake to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

• First Day of Spring Story Time and Craft: We will read Spring is Here! by Will Hillenbrand, play hopscotch, hula hoop,  other springtime games, and paint wooden birdhouses.

April:

FIRST MONDAY FAMILY PROGRAM:
Monday, April 6th, 6 pm 

• Peep My Book: Bring your creativity and an empty shoebox. We will provide the Peeps and craft supplies. Each family will recreate their favorite book scene starring marshmallow Peeps!

FIRST MONDAY FAMILY PROGRAM:
Monday, May 4th, 6 pm

• May the 4th Be With You-Star Wars Party: We will play Star Wars Bingo, make a lightsaber, train to be a Jedi, and decorate Wookie Cookies. Everyone is encouraged to dress as their favorite Star Wars character or wear a Star Wars shirt.
