Tax Assistance Program Suspended at the Library

UPDATE (3/16/20 - 3:30 pm): Due to concerns over the potential spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Ohio County Public Library is closed until further notice, effective Sunday, March 15, 2020. All events, classes, and public meeting room reservations are canceled for the duration of the Library closure. This includes the VITA tax preparation program.

If your taxes were completed before the library closed, your taxes have been filed. If your taxes were still in progress or left to be done, the VITA tax volunteers have picked up all the client paperwork that was at the library.  One of the tax preparers will call you the week of March 15th and make arrangements with you to complete and file your taxes. If your taxes were in progress and no one has contacted you by Friday, March 20th, please call 740-633-2879. Leave a message at this number with your name and call back phone number if no one answers. The VITA tax preparation program will resume its regular hours once the library re-opens.

Call Tax Volunteers

Free tax help is once again available at the Ohio County Public Library. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program has set up shop in the meeting room located next to the elevator doors on the lower level of the Library. VITA provides free tax preparation to low-moderate income taxpayers. IRS-certified volunteers help eligible taxpayers e-file their returns through the VITA program. The service will be available at the Library from January 27 to April 15, 2020.

PLEASE NOTE: The VITA program is not part of the library. Library staff cannot schedule appointments or answer questions about your taxes. To speak to the tax volunteers directly, you will need to call VITA at 304-232-8985.  

Hours are as follows:

➤ MON: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm; 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm*
➤ TUES: CLOSED
➤ WED: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm; 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm*
➤ THURS: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm; 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm*
➤ FRI: 10 am to 3:00 pm* (Library does not open until 10 am on Fridays)
➤ SAT: By appointment only
➤ SUN: CLOSED

*Last Client sign-up is 1/2 hour before closing time but does not guarantee time to do your taxes.

PLEASE NOTE:

If you are having your taxes done at the Library, you MUST bring the following:

1. REQUIRED: PICTURE ID(s) for the taxpayer (and spouse for joint).

2. REQUIRED: Social Security Cards for EVERYONE on the return.

3. REQUIRED: 1095-A if you have marketplace insurance.

4. ALL tax-related forms and information.

5. LAST YEAR'S RETURN if you itemized or have any carryovers.
