Check-Out Guidelines

  • 1 Wi-Fi Hot Spot can be checked out per household.
  • The check-out period is 14 days (2 weeks).
  • You ma place the Hot Spot on hold.
  • The Hot Spot checkout cannot be renewed.
  • The Hot Spot must be returned to the circulation desk and cannot be placed in a book drop.
  • Hot Spots can only be checked out by patrons in good standing. If the patron has fees on their account, it must total under $20.00.
  • Patrons must be 16 years or older.

Charging the Mobile Hot Spot

There are two ways to charge the Mobile Hot Spot:

  1. Charge with a USB charging adapter:
    • Connect a USB cable between the device and the head of the adapter and plug it into a power socket to start charging.
    • When the device is powered off, it takes about 3 hours before being fully charged.
  2. Charge with a personal computer:
    • Connect the device to your desktop or laptop computer via the included USB cable to charge.
    • When the device is powered off, it takes about 4 hours to complete charging.

Note: When red battery indicator flashes, device should be charged in order to protect the battery.

Connecting Your Wi-Fi Device to the Mobile Hot Spot

  1. Power on the Mobile Hot Spot.
  2. On your computer or other Wi-Fi enabled device, search for available Wi-Fi networks and select the network name (SSID) (i.e. Verizon-RC400L-06,) which is also written on the device.
  3. Enter password located on the back of device and click OK.
    • From a Windows PC: Left-click Wireless Network Connection on the task bar to view available networks. View Available Networks. Choose the SSID from the list of available networks.
    • From a Mac computer: Select System Preferences -> Network -> Airport. Click “Advanced” to choose SSID from the list of available networks.
    • From an iOS device: Settings -> Wi-Fi.Choose SSID from the available networks.
    • From an Android device: Settings -> Wi-Fi settings. Choose the SSID from the available networks

Note: Wi-Fi name (SSID )and password are located on the back of the device.

Troubleshooting

  • The Hot Spot needs to connect to a tower that can access the Verizon cellular service.
  • Signal strength depends on your physical location, and you may need to move the device around to find the best location.
  • The Hot Spot should not be more than 30 feet from your personal device. Signal strength will be weaker the farther away your device is from the Hot Spot.
  • Hold power button for eight (8) seconds to reboot device if necessary.

FAQs

  • The hot spot provides unlimited data at full speed.
  • Cases will contain the hot spot, charging cord, charging block, and an instruction sheet.
  • Passwords are posted on the back of the device and instruction sheet.
  • Up to ten (10) devices can be connected simultaneously.
  • The hot spot must be turned on to work. If it is not turning on, it may need to be charged before use. Turning it off when it is not in use will save battery life.
  • If no keys are pressed on the device for 30 seconds, LED screen will automatically dim to save power.
  • The hot spot should be kept in a temperature controlled environment. Do not leave the device outdoors or in a cold or hot vehicle.
  • Your internet-enabled device should see “Verizon-RC400L” as the connection. (example: Verizon-RC400L-06 )
  • Wi-Fi name (SSID )and password are located on the back of the device.
  • The hot spot only works in the continental United States.
  • There is no internet filtering on the device.
  • OCPL will not collect any information about the devices used on the hot spot or its Internet use history.

If the Wi-Fi Hot Spot Is Overdue

  • The Hot Spot is deactivated at 3 days overdue.
  • You will be billed for the cost of the hot spot ($100) if the device is overdue for 14 days.

Please Note: You are responsible for all materials associated with the hot spot and will be required to pay for any loss or damage to the device or its components.

The Ohio County Public Library is not responsible for any liability, damages or expense resulting from use or misuse of the WiFi Hot Spot, connection of the WiFi Hot Spot to other electronic devices, or data loss resulting from use of WiFi Hot Spot.

The Ohio County Public Library cannot guarantee data coverage or connection speed. Performance of the Hot Spot will vary depending upon location and Verizon™ coverage in the area.

Parents and guardians, not library personnel, are responsible for what their children view and read on the Internet.   • Rokus cannot be renewed.
  • The Roku devide must be returned to the circulation desk and cannot be placed in a book drop.
  • Roku devices can only be checked out by patrons in good standing. If the patron has fees on their account, it must total under $20.00.
  • Patrons must be 16 years or older.

Connecting Your TV to the Roku Device

  1. Plug the USB power cable into your ROKU if it is not connected.
  2. Use the included USB power cable and power adapter to plug in the ROKU to a wall outlet (for best streaming experience) OR use the included USB power cable to connect to the USB port on your TV.
  3. Insert ROKU stick into the HDMI port of your TV
  4. Select input – use your TV remote to turn on your TV and select the input you used to connect your ROKU (ex. HDMI 1 or HDMI 2)
  5. Using the ROKU provided remote, connect to your wireless network. Go to Settings > Networks > Add New Networks > Find your network and connect using your password.
  6. Click on the Home button and choose a channel to watch:
    1. Disney+
    2. Hulu
    3. ESPN
    4. MAX
    5. Apple TV
    6. Netflix (only on specified Netflix-enabled devices)
  7. When finished with the ROKU, simply unplug the device from the HDMI port and return all items to the provided case

Note: Streaming channels should already be logged in to the OCPL’s account – no need to log in or out. Please do not log out of OCPL accounts or log in using your own username and password.
